PK (Munich) about a painting of Joe
The colors are really great! Slowly I realize that the painting really shines! My mother and I sat here in my room yesterday evening and watched the painting altered while light changed (first sunlight, then twilight, finally artificial light). And the painting became even more splendid. At times my mother and I sat quietly at the table and viewed beguiled. Also, every other color dominates and shines particularly at times. This morning I awoke and my first look fell onto the painting, and I saw the yellow shine in the morning light! The painting has very wild colors! But the framed woodcut has to be mentioned, too. I realize more and more how beautiful it is, the frame matches wonderfully. I have to watch that I don't look like a cruel mother to my old painting; but this will change when both paintings are here for some time and the sensation of the new is gone. But I had to sit down and write you how wonderful the pictures are. Right now, I am really happy that I own them. The money trouble is gone, too. I don't regret to have spent it. I hardly dare to confess that I have looked through your work catalogue this morning at breakfast, looking for the next work to buy. I already inserted bookmarks. Must be collector's impulse. But I felt ashamed a little and put the catalogue away quickly after breakfast. That's not going to be like that, not to speak of money at all. That's how I enjoy my three Stürenburg's!
RE on poster My poster is stunning. The colors are more vibrant with a border or mat. I will send you a photo of it framed, I think your style of painting is very unique and has much strength. I am curious as to what is motivating you to work in such a strong manner. To me it is very appealing. Almost shocking in a sense. I like the boldness and your choice of characters. I am very pleased to own one of your works and would like a companion piece sometime in the future. Although I haven't decided on which one.
Dr. PAC on Art Quarter You have a terrific site, Dr. Stürenburg. It is informative, attractive, and reflective of the knowledge and integrity of the owner. I expect to make purchases through your service myself in the near future, and sincerely wish for you a multitude of wealthier clients than I! -- pc Wishing you all the best . . .
Werner, Wow, what a site! It is obvious you have put some time in on the creation. A person could spend a week there and not get bored. As an art lover, I enjoyed all that is there. I think some people, however, may find it overwhelming. Americans are in such a hurry anymore and we seem to be obsessed with 'cutting to the chase' and 'getting to the bottom line'. We don't take the time to appreciate the gift of a flower or the song of the wind any more. So we surf into a site that is exquisite with information and buzz on through to simplistic modes which fit our rushed way of thinking. Just want you to know your efforts are appreciated.
Wanda Loskot on the new design Dear Werner,
Your pages look STUNNING! (Yes, I knew, I didn't like it myself. And it was not my first site! It won't be the last improvement, either. But I needed help from friends very badly to realize the faults and get fresh ideas, and I got it. Steve Williams helped a lot, and Joan Sotkin wrote a review. This got me going. Need some more help, though, all along my way. We all need help from friends, don't we?.) Actually - when you wrote that memorable "u" word the first thing that came to my mind "says who? - the guy with THOSE pages?" (but I didn't tell a soul :-) (She refers to my article in InternetDay. I called her page "ugly" which was actually an unknowing insult - when I later thought about it, I realized that I didn't really mean that. I'm really sorry now. Wanda educated me a lot on that occasion. I admire her, she is a wonderful person. By the way, you can learn a lot from her, too, and she can really help you. Her site is worth a look every once in a while.) Now, this is just perfect - it REALLY inspires the sense of balance and beauty! Congratulation! Wanda
Judy Vorfeld aka
Webgrammar Werner: we're in a couple of the same biz discussion groups. Your site is excellent, and I'm linking it to my home page. I'm re-designing, so hopefully it'll be up sometime Sunday. Your work is stunning! The very best to you in this Internet venture.

ArtXpo: A VERY INTERESTING WEBSITE Want a crash course in Art Appreciation? Love Art but are convinced you can't draw, much less paint? Have we got a site for you !! Even if you are accomplished and polished as an artist you will most likely enjoy this one. Go to http://www.art-quarter.com Hosted by Dr. Werner Stürenburg (a.k.a. Joe) from Germany. He has a very interesting and extensive site. His Creative Journal and his Art Journal should be of interest to all. Take the time to explore and enjoy his expertise. You can read her archive online and subscribe to her service from there, too.
Hi Joe, I just want to let you know that you are appreciated! Keep up the good work. I enjoy your work and am learning from you. Just because you do not get much feedback, does not mean that others do not appreciate your work, they are probably just too busy to give you the feedback you are looking for. Many artists must work full time at something else, like me, I will be starting a full time job on Monday, and obviously will not have as much time as I do unemployed. [...]
Thank you,
i love your art journal. i am a former artist w bad hands. it's fustrating to have murals in one's head that i can never paint!! my enjoyment now is appreciating art & artist. my first love is michelangelo of whom i used to study his style. thank you for taking the time to create a very good journal!! a
Hello. Besides wanting to thank you for your wonderful art lessons, I also wanted to tell you how wonderful it is to hear a man speak of the beauty of a woman's body, one that is not the tv and magazine version of "ideal". As a woman who looks more like the painting, I hail you! My heart and soul smiled. Leslie
TCT on Creative Journal Amazing work... I'm really impressed. Long files are a pain in the wallet for us who pay by the minute for local calls (I'm in Korea) but yours are worth it. Your comments are interesting reading, even if I can't see them at the time (I'm an email reader, not a WWW reader.) [... technical stuff - he could not read it well - I gave him advice ...] Anyhow, thanks for the work! Hope you don't burn out like so many others on the net... do it every two weeks if you have to, but don't give up!
JM on Creative Journal Werner, The Chinese Secret was interesting. What I read into it was that the Master was trying to perfect the image of a chicken before he presented it to the Emporer, thereby implying that the Emporer deserved divination (which obviously was not the case.) This is a parallel to the real world where the masses understand little about how we arrive at producing 'masterpieces' and often grow impatient with our efforts. I think art is a lifelong learning experience; most great artists that I studied last semester in art history changed their approaches even after they were well known. It would appear they were never satisfied with their work, which is something I can well relate to also. It is easy to become ensnared in trying to create for an audience; likewise difficult to create for ourselves only when we realize it might not be well received generally. "To thine own self be true" takes on special significance for an artist, I think. I wish to subscribe to your journal as I enjoyed it very much. You are gifted in so much more than art. Your friend, J
JJS on Daily Drawing [...] I want to say that as long as I'm a subscriber of your list, I enjoyed it very much. [...] Grtz, J
SEC on Daily Drawing I love your daily drawings. I am not trained in art, but i find it a nice break from my work. sometimes I read the words and sometimes I don't if I'm busy, but I always look. I like a variety of styles and genres. [...] Thanks, SEC
Dear Werner Stürenburg, I visited the pages that you sent to me and was delighted. I spent much time browsing the site and looking at the beautiful art. Then I read the Art Journals. I have an eye that appreciates art, although it is unsophisticated and doesn't always know what it is looking at. I thank you very much for guiding me through the deeper interpretations of the art. This is all that I had hoped it would be and more. My most sincere compliments to you on a job well done.
> Personally, I enjoy finding out about my own feelings,
but it is You are our teacher. I enjoy seeing through your eyes. You open up the emotion of the paintings. Objective data is interesting. I am an engineer and oriented toward data. Perhaps some of both? I might add that you are very good at expressing yourself in English. I have little knowledge of German and envy your ability to function so well in a language that is not native to you.
Sincerely,
Very Good Indeed Sehr Gut Keep it up and thank you for providing this service for us. I appreciate your commitment. The size, shape and format are very well proportioned. Good Luck and all the best. Mit freundlichen gruessen

article Dear Werner, interesting, your article. I gave me some ideas to think about. So did Wanda Loskot a while ago. I also visited your website: a fine piece of art that is definitely impressive. Congratulations. I hope you are successful with your site. It is one of the best I have ever seen.
Viele Grüße aus LA

article [...] if I "borrowed" your idea of the "give-away" journal (but used only my own original ideas, thoughts, and art) would you have any objection? I really like your idea - and I would not just "copy" it-I appreciate the effort you put into coming up with the concept. [...] Thank You for taking time to write the article.....it realy got me thinking in some new directions! Sincerely, PD
(I asked for feedback in Weekly Work, but nobody but Peter replied. He requested the survey, but I didn't want to take the pain for just one reader so I asked him to reply in plain words.) Hello Werner, I don't know how helpful a one man survey will be for you but here is my assesment. I am a disabled man who is learning a little here and there about art. I had no expectations, I subscribed because I thought it look it interesting. I think I found it originally from a posting on usenet. I don't always get to read it all right away, but when I do there is usually that sticks with me. I think your effort was instrumental in my step from crayons to oil. I might just give myself the freedom to express my self. I wouldn't at this time have the audacity to tell you how to do better. It is very obvious that this is a major effort on your part and I appreciate the influence it has for me. I hope that the lack of response to your questionaire reflects the satisfaction of your readers. I also hope that the rewards of your work are enough to keep it coming to me.
Thanks
