Dear Partners:

I wanted to insert our new artist Tina Tacke and add more works of Anne Stahl and Robert Schaefer, but somehow I drowned in promotional work. I informed you about the feedback Sandee gave, and I confess, I made a big mistake: Sandee is a pretty woman, not a guy, I saw her wedding photos, I'm glad she forgot to kill the link (as of time of writing, it's still there)! Sandee offers web promotional services at Zonescapes Unlimited.

Feedback

Sandee kicked off a whole new approach. Since Saturday, Aug. 8, I added text to the works offered daily, and I can feel now how helpless many subscribers must have been. Of course, that's much more work, but I can get the message really delivered this way, I hope. What do you think?

Here's some feedback (subscriber of Pablo):
I visited the pages that you sent to me and was delighted. I spent much time browsing the site and looking at the beautiful art. Then I read the Art Journals. I have an eye that appreciates art, although it is unsophisticated and doesn't always know what it is looking at. I thank you very much for guiding me through the deeper interpretations of the art. This is all that I had hoped it would be and more. My most sincere compliments to you on a job well done.
> Personally, I enjoy finding out about my own feelings, but it is
> some work, of course, and maybe people would prefer
> objective data. How about you?
You are our teacher. I enjoy seeing through your eyes. You open up the emotion of the paintings. Objective data is interesting. I am an engineer and oriented toward data. Perhaps some of both?
I might add that you are very good at expressing yourself in English. I have little knowledge of German and envy your ability to function so well in a language that is not native to you.

Pablo: Joe paired with Beckmann and Picasso!

So that's a lot of compliments! Writing for the Daily Drawing has turned into telling anecdotes from my life, too, and, what's really hot, I made two supplements for Pablo comparing Joe with Beckmann and Picasso!

Remember, last time I contemplated confronting one of my triptychs with one of Beckmann's. When looking for the next pairing of Pablo, I was kind of stuck. I did not find any pictures that interested me. Well, then I did it! The 4th issue of Pablo is entitled: Beckmann / Joe, Two triptychs. And I like it very much. Great! Triumph! Success! What do you think?

Now came the Daily Drawing. Yesterday, I told a story about a painting sold to a lawyer who objected to hanging my pictures in his office. And I did not want to write much about the painting itself, but I added:
I like it very much, too. It is really strong, quiet and powerful. I can't tell what it is. But the power of the painting keeps growing. I can sense it even from this poor little digital image. Hey, I got an idea! Did you hear of Pablo, my new Journal (The Louvre Test)? I show two paintings each, which is very interesting. I just thought it would be fun to find a partner to this painting and test it's strength.

And I did it, as a partner I choose a Beckmann: Beckmann  / Joe, Couples, and I called this issue supplement 1a. Today, I took the very next painting I did, and it occurred to me that I always associated it with a painting of Picasso from the blue period. Well, I did the next supplement 1b: Picasso / Joe, With a golden child. I am very content now. I have seen my paintings hung side by side with my great masters, and they don't give way! Take it as a strong selling argument, can you? What do you think?

Subscribers

In the meantime, I managed to announce all the other journals at the NewList server. I had to do it several times. It is moderated, and this journal has not been announced yet. Maybe the moderator doesn't like it. These announcements brought a lot of subscribers, each journal has now between 50 and 100. Of course, people unsubscribe, too, but if I get feedback people are content like the one cited above. Will this be a good way to generate customers? What do you think?

The first ad was published at Jim Daniels' Gazette, but the result was not great. Probably I should have tested the ad before, headlines etc. I'm still learning. As I read lots of biz ezines, I got opportunities enough. Headlines are important, and it is obviously not skillful to post information. Well, I have to confess, I did just that with the first ad I put into the Daily Drawing:

Announcement: Gallery Daguerre at Art Quarter added artist Robert A. Schaefer, Jr. from New York, NY.

Robert A. Schaefer Jr. is a renowned photographer having received numerous awards, his works being present in private and public collections. He exhibits in USA and all over Europe at galleries (among others the eminent Berlin Gallery Raab) and museums (next year, he will have a one man show at Huntsville Museum of Art, Alabama). Click here for a selection. He concentrates on people and architecture. We will be adding more of his pictures soon.

And, what's more, I copied this one to the next issue of the Art Journal! Now happily, it is due tomorrow. I changed it to:

Is this a story of true love?

A couple behind a curtain ... Kate and Megan ...

Announcement: Gallery Daguerre at Art Quarter added artist Robert A. Schaefer, Jr. from New York, NY.

Well, I'd say: better. What do you think? I guess I'll have to learn a lot, still.

Any old ezine has different conditions: 5 lines at 63 chars, 100 words, 50 words, 80 chars, etc. Here's a 120 char - 2 lines ad for a text only ezine:
Mother and I sat quietly at the table, viewing beguiled...

The headline is from the testimonial, translated from German. It sounds fine in German, but does it sound good in English? I don't know. What do you think?

I  arranged quite a number of  free ads. Some require a fee, but they don't have credit card processing. Some have but lack a secure order form. Checks are too expensive. At last, I got an idea: Why not send them paper money? Does it pay to pay for ads? What do you think?

What can you say in a FFA page? A 30 char headline. I put up a Free For All links page myself, to be reached from the store page. Link-o-matic supplied this service, adapted from Matt Wright. They claim that some FFA pages really work, and some gurus administer. Of course, they earn money with it, too. So I signed up with them. I bought 16,000 credits, so I could advertise Art Quarter 40 times to their database of 400 FFA sites, or I could test 4 headlines simultaneously 10 times, or ... Let's see. What do you think?

I made a new entry page and will do some more, one for each headline I invent. Then I can test them redirecting the visitors to the appropriate pages and counting the visitors generated by the different headlines. Now think of a simple FFA headline to generate a click through!

... confess that I looked for the next work to buy...

Now this ought to be bad: you give away for free, you don't tell people they want to buy. Wrong?
... hope I'm not like a cruel mother to my old painting ...

All citations from that testimonial. Ok, this will be a long way to go, too. What do you think?

Refer-It!

I did not know how to announce the affiliate program and not give the visitor a wrong signal. Now I found a good solution! I joined Refer-It, and they accepted Art Quarter and rated with 3 posts, which is their highest rating. If you advertise this affiliate program, you can use their logo, too (without the link, to get your association). You may even copy the complete reseller file to your site and simply change the mail subject by adding your affiliate number:  That's it, this way I know the affiliate comes from you. (You have to change 3 links!) What do you think?

LinkExchange

I will also buy ads or rather banner impressions from LinkExchange. They don't need headlines but banners, or rather headlines wrapped in banners. Ted gave us 3 examples. I'm not sure if they do already. LinkExchange has some advice of how to improve, I already did some study. Hope I'll make it next week. What do you think?

Credit Cards

I'm still struggling. It's not easy for a foreigner to get service that's not too expensive. We got no numbers yet. I'll wait and look until I really need a solution. What do you think of my order system? I contemplated installing a shopping cart system, but  this is really no fun for the visitor. When I ordered my ads at Jim Daniels' site, it should be a really simple procedure, but I wondered how complicated this thing is. And it was a faulty procedure, too, as he had to email me to send him the text again, the system somehow dropped it! Not impressive. What do you think?

Now, so far there has been little feedback from you, dear affiliates. I am contemplating setting up whole pages for you to copy. Would that be a good idea? If so, what would you prefer? Posters, replicas, originals, paintings, sculptures, photographs? Which? What can I do for you? What do you think?

Sincerely,
Werner Stürenburg

PS: With the photo auction I made a mistake last time. The highest bid was not 60,000 $, but 130,000 $.
PPS: Amazon bought telebuch.de 2 months ago. Now they are Amazon.de. I guess Amazon aims at becoming the no.1 book selling site in all local markets, not just the US market.
PPPS: Today, I got the following proposal:
How would you feel about us using your photos on our soon to be released e-cards ? We are planning a series of thematic e-cards (wildlife, people of the world , landscape etc ) and an art theme would be good for our users. I would be good if you could provide some background info on each photo so the recipient of the e-mail can click to find out more about it....with a link to your site for purchase
